PFRA AGM 2026

It was great to see so many of you at the AGM on the 29th of May. The event included the presentation of our 2026-2030 Strategy, the announcement of the Director election results, and networking drinks at Aerial to close out the night. We hope members feel energised by the strategy and are excited for what lies ahead for the PFRA.

Thank you to everyone who attended, and a warm welcome to our two newly elected Board members, Leanne Riches and Adriana Aguilera. As you will have seen in our previous updates, Peter Hills-Jones has stepped down as CEO to pursue other opportunities. Charity Director Elections

Welcome Leanne Riches

We’re so pleased to welcome our newly elected PFRA Charity Board Member Leanne Riches. Leanne joins the Board for a two-year term, bringing almost 25 years of face-to-face fundraising experience. With a background on both supplier and charity sides of the industry, managing large scale in-house and supply chain-based campaigns, Leanne has gained broad, practical insight into the opportunities and challenges across the sector. Leanne will be a very valuable member of our board.

Welcome Back Adriana Aguilera

We also welcome back Adriana Aguilera, who has been re-elected for a second term and has been a member of the Board since May 2024. Adriana has over 15 years of experience in the fundraising sector, with deep expertise in face-to-face fundraising and multi-channel donor acquisition. Adriana has made a significant contribution to the PFRA’s governance and strategic direction during her first term. This has included her work on the Governance and Finance Committee and current role as Chair of the Membership and Stakeholder Committee, with a focus on member engagement initiatives. We are very grateful for her ongoing commitment to the PFRA.

Updated Guides

At the AGM, the PFRA also announced updates to all existing member guides on the website, along with three new guides. The updates reflect legislative changes following the implementation of the National Fundraising Principles, while the new guides were developed in response to feedback from last year’s operational member survey.

One of the new guides focuses on sub-contractor compliance, and the other two provide advice on approaching charity boards, with one designed for charities and the other for suppliers.

Fundraiser Spotlight

This month’s Fundraiser Spotlight features a Surge Team representing Anglicare WA who received some very positive feedback in a recent Mystery Shopper report. Some of the highlights included:

“They were very professional in their presentation and in the way they interacted with the public. I would not have one criticism about their behaviour.”

“The fundraiser I interacted with was very enthusiastic about the charity and passionate about Anglicare. Very knowledgeable and a great communicator with the public. At no time did I feel pressured to sign up, but I was made to feel that I wanted to purely by the fundraiser’s manner and passion.”

“I have completed many of these fundraising observations before today, and I must say this one was professional on every level. They all need to be congratulated on the fine work they are doing representing Anglicare. I have nothing but praise for these fundraisers today.”

Fundraiser Register – Reminder for Members

The PFRA is aware of a deregistered fundraiser currently seeking employment within the industry. This is an important reminder to all members: supplier members must check the Sales Assured Fundraiser Register before engaging any new fundraisers, and charity members should have a process in place to ensure every fundraiser working on their campaign is on the register. The SAL Register is a vital tool to protect the industry, so we ask all members to make it a standard part of their processes, and to remain vigilant.

Update to APP Guidelines

There have been updates to the Australian Privacy Principles (APP) 3 Guidelines issued by the OAIC. Organisations are encouraged to review their information collection practices. You can read more in the article below:

May Quality Report

You can view the May Quality Report here or in the Updates and Publications area of the PFRA website.

The most frequently breached rules this month were:

• Rule 4.2 – Fundraisers must never mislead or use false information while pitching.
• Rule 4.7 – Fundraisers mustn’t initiate physical contact.

We recorded 9 breach free reports in May, which is a great result for the month.
