Member Bulletin April 2026

Dear Members,

We hope you all had a restful Easter break. With an eventful first quarter behind us, we are looking forward to the AGM next month and invite Members to join us as we introduce the new Board Directors.

Here are a few key notes for April:

  • Strategy Update
  • AGM Candidates
  • Fine Removal
  • Fundraiser Spotlight
  • Book an Open-Door with Peter

Strategy Update

Our CEO, Peter, is currently finalising the next phase of our strategy, developed with valuable input from member feedback, the Board, staff, and More Strategic. We look forward to presenting this at the AGM at 2pm on 29 May at Aerial, followed by networking drinks at the same venue. Please note that RSVPs are essential for catering and close COB Wednesday 29 April.

AGM Candidates

Submissions for the new Charity Fundraiser to join the Board have now closed. Candidates who have been shortlisted will be notified by Friday 24 April. The election will be held online, as in previous years, from 21 to 22 May to ensure as many members as possible have the opportunity to vote. You will receive your electronic ballots on the morning of Thursday, 21 May.

Fine Removal

A huge thank you to all our Members for your continued commitment to improving standards across the sector. In recognition of this, the PFRA is pleased to introduce a six-month trial period where level one and two fines will not be issued with breaches.

In response to Member feedback, we’ve strengthened our mystery shopper reporting to deliver more meaningful insights, while continuing to support members in addressing any issues that arise.

PFRA reports are now available exclusively in the Member Area of the PFRA website. To learn more, you can read the PFRA Reports Guidance here or watch the how-to video on accessing your reports.

We remain committed to supporting ongoing improvement across the sector, so please feel free to send any questions to admin@pfra.org.au.

Fundraiser Spotlight

This month’s Fundraiser Spotlight features an interview with Nicola Garrard, the Head of Individual Giving; Acquisition at Save the Children. Nicola reflects on her time in the sector and offers thoughtful advice for those starting out in face-to-face fundraising.

Nicola GarrardHow did you first get started in fundraising?

I started out as a face-to-face fundraiser for Cornucopia on a working holiday visa back in 2004. I worked mostly on Amnesty International, sometimes on FHF, Greenpeace and Red Cross. I became a team leader, then regional manager, and I stayed there for four years before getting my first charity-side job at The Wilderness Society in 2008…

Christmas Eve 2004 – Nicola and her fellow fundraiser Lyndsey proudly posing after getting 13 sign-ups each for the day.
